I have been scrapbooking for over 30 years! I was scrapping before it was a “term” and before you could sink thousands of dollars annually into your habit! J If I had known then what a multi -billion dollar industry it would become, I probably would have gone a different direction professionally. As it stands, I am a gold executive financial supporter of all things crafty!
I get my passion for creating from my mom. My first memories of her craftiness were the beautiful Barbie clothing and gowns she designed for me. When I was about eight years old, she opened a little yarn shop where she sold yarn and taught knitting, crocheting, and tatting. She sold that business and started painting. She did that a lot of years and some of her work was even featured in the San Diego Art Institute. She basically tried every craft in her lifetime ~ except stamping or scrapbooking!
In 1999, I was introduced to Stampin’ Up! I fell in love with stamping and all the creative possibilities it gave me with scrapbooking. I have been an avid fan and demonstrator since then. For years, I tried to convince Mom that she would love the craft, but she would never try it. Finally, she was invited to attend a Creative Memories party with a friend and she was hooked! We used to laugh about her excessive behavior when she loved something. In crafting/scrapbook terms - if one was good; ten were better! When she passed away, I basically inherited a craft store. When my brother (who had been living in her home) also passed away, as a means to keep our family home, I made some changes and opened it up to fellow crafters for vacation rentals. I knew Mom would have been thrilled that I shared her home with fellow crafters, whom she would have considered friends, to gather together and create not only works of art, but beautiful friendships. We called her home and crafting retreat, "The Raggedy Inn." There's a story attached to that. If you want to know more - go visit the retreat page for that at www.scrapramona.com
When I decided to hold on to mom's home and make it a crafter's retreat Airbnb when we weren't using it, I thought I would be able to have a greater part in meeting up with the ladies who were staying at the house and doing some fun things with them. Turns out, that's a really difficult proposition when you live 1,400 miles away! So, when the opportunity presented itself to open another Vacation/Airbnb style retreat closer to home, I jumped on it!
So, welcome to The Raggedy Inn II ~aka Little Creek Retreat. While there are more of mom's beloved Raggedy Ann's at the CA location, we have a few touches here in Dallas, too, because Mom will always me my hero and inspiration.
We really hope you enjoy your stay with us!
